KORENLEI 14, GHENT
Three years old.Before day one.
Belgian oak, three years in the air.
Then six weeks in our hands.
One stool. Made to stay.
One stool.
Three ways to live with it.
We’re Karel and Bram Volders. Since 1987, this is the only object we’ve made at our workshop on the Leie.
A single oak seat. Three turned legs. Wooden wedges that hold it all together. De Drievoet — “the three-foot”.

Six weeks.
Nothing rushed.
Before the first cut, every board spends three years under our shed roof. Then we fire the kiln, select the oak, and begin.

- 01WEEK 1
Listen to the timber
Plank selection and a moisture reading below 9%.
- 02WEEK 2
Turn the three legs
Tapered by hand. Set at an 11° splay.
- 03WEEK 3
Find the hollow
The seat is dished with a hand adze.
- 04WEEK 4
Wedge it together
Through-wedged foxtail tenons. No screws. No metal.
- 05WEEK 5
Let the finish settle
Fuming, or soap and oil curing.
- 06WEEK 6
Mark it. Send it.
Hot-iron branding. Barge or courier from Korenlei 14.
One batch. Twenty-four stools.
That’s where we stop.
Make room
for yours.
Choose your height and finish.
We make each monthly batch by hand,
then confirm your place with you.
De Drievoet
Your selection could not be remembered. You can still prepare and download your request.
Your place is confirmed with the workshop.
Your request is ready.
Bring it to Korenlei 14 on a Saturday. Karel or Bram will confirm your place in the batch.

Its story stays
underneath.
Turn over your seat. The hot-iron mark records its month and batch number, the oak’s forest — Sonian or Ardennes — and the orientation of its three ankle wedges.
Not a sticker. A mark in the timber.
Come by
the river.
Run a hand along the timber.
See what we’re making.
